WEEK 1 / What is Discipleship?
Thank you for joining the Root’s Discipleship Challenge!
At Roots, our heart is to develop each believer into a multiplying disciple of Christ. We believe every Christian is called to not only be a disciple, but then go and make disciples, obeying the command Jesus gave right before he ascended back to Heaven (Mt. 28:18-20).
Our definition of discipleship is “Intentionally pouring my life and God’s truth into another person until they get it, live it, and share it.” And we believe every discipleship relationship will involve the 5 Essentials of Discipleship:
Care
Accountability
Truth
Vision-Casting
Prayer
So for the next several weeks we will be sending out an email each Monday morning with an article to read, podcast or video to watch, and verse to memorize based on one of the 5 Essentials and other topics crucial to discipleship. We want to challenge you to join us in reading, watching, and memorizing those each week in order to grow in our understanding of discipleship together!
To make it even more effective, choose someone you are close to and work through this “together” - keeping each other accountable and talking through what you are learning.
We hope you are encouraged, challenged, and blessed by this time and are excited to see how we grow together in Christ!
Blessings,
Pastor Dave & Pastor Kevin

Week 2 / Care
Welcome to week two of the Discipleship Challenge!
As we mentioned last week, each week we are going to focus on one of Root’s Five Essentials of Discipleship, as well as a few other aspects crucial to discipleship. At Roots, we believe that every healthy discipleship relationship will involve these Five Essentials: Care, Truth, Prayer, Vision-Casting, and Accountability. So each week, we will spend some time digging into these, and making sure we truly understand what each of them mean to a multiplying believer.
This week’s topic is:
CARE: authentically involved in the lives of our disciples.
With each Essential, there is also a central question to ask as you meet together. For this week’s topic, Care, the question is: How is your heart?
Our definition of discipleship is, “Intentionally pouring my life and God’s truth into another person until they get it, live it, and share it.”
It’s often said that “people don’t care what you know, until they know that you care.” As cliche as that sounds, it is really true. Which is why we believe that one crucial aspect of “pouring our lives into others” through discipleship is caring for people in a way that they know you love them and are truly invested in their spiritual growth and well-being. Truly transforming discipleship is more than a meeting, it has to be life-on-life.
We hope this week’s article, video and verse encourage you into greater faith and discipleship! If you missed last week’s and would like to get it please email Dave at dave@rootscc.com and I’ll send it to you.
Blessings,
Pastor Dave & Pastor Kevin
